Adult Learning

We are proud to offer many outstanding adult learning opportunities throughout the year!  How did Coca Cola become kosher? What are the origins of the Jews in Boston? How can I research my own family tree? How is Jewish life being restored in Krakow, Poland and how does the current climate in Poland affect the Jewish community? How do we see Israel through the eyes of its next generation of leaders? How can I live a healthy life, through yoga, meditation and healthful and mindful eating? These are all questions we have explored together over the past years with answers coming from the experts the Adult Learning Committee has brought to speak with our community.

Learning is not limited to our youth. It is a part of our lifelong journey. To this end, our TBS Adult Learning Committee is very excited to offer a series of outstanding Jewish learning tracks to enable you to find just the right program, class, and activity.  These will include opportunities to explore spirituality, text, food & culture, music, politics, science/technology, health, Israel, and more!  Some programs will have large community-wide appeal while others will attract a more focused group of learners.  Our goal is to bring a variety of programs that touch our community in many ways and across generations.  Please join us!

Temple Beth Shalom Children's Center

At Temple Beth Shalom Children's Center children are thinkers who construct knowledge through interacting with the world around them. Working together as a community of learners, they ask questions and explore big concepts. Jewish values are woven into the daily curriculum as the children learn to live by our guiding principles: We take care of ourselves, we take care of each other, and we take care of our world. From joyful holiday celebrations to supporting each other through life transitions, the families of Temple Beth Shalom Children’s Center form a warm and welcoming community extending beyond the classroom. At Temple Beth Shalom Children's Center, learning comes alive.

Mayim

Mayim is Temple Beth Shalom’s learning program for children in grades K-5. Our children participate in active, meaningful Jewish learning experiences in a welcoming and nurturing environment that reflects the character of our entire community. In developing Mayim, we moved away from the classical “Religious School” educational model that has been prevalent in North American synagogues for the past century. Instead, we are offering a new paradigm for Jewish life and learning. Guided by our twin pillars of Depth of Relationships and Depth of Learning, children and educators partner to investigate big questions and engage in hands-on, long-term projects. Mayim is a wonderful way for children to experience meaningful Jewish learning as they build relationships in our TBS community.

Etzim

The Etzim community is a special space in which we foster deep relationships and have meaningful learning opportunities. In 6th-12th grade, we have scaffolded opportunities for teens and preteens to have agency in crafting their own Jewish journey based on a plethora of offerings, both inside and outside the classroom. Our mission, which was created in partnership with our teens is: “The 6-12th grade community at TBS is a welcoming and safe space that fosters community, leadership development, and Jewish identity in a joyful and family-like environment.” It comes to life through our comprehensive leadership structure, in which our 8th-12th graders are involved in all aspects (mentored by staff) of creating and leading our programming. We have a diverse and inclusive community and we hope to see you there!
