With special guest Bill Littlefield, former host of NPR’s “Only a Game” College Behind Bars pairs mentors with incarcerated people earning college degrees through Tufts, Emerson, BC and BU. Join TBS’ Adult Learning and Tzedek Committees, in partnership with First Parish Church of Needham for a panel discussion followed by Q&A about being a College Behind Bars Mentor.
What Is a Mentor?
Mentors form teams of 2-4 people per student
Mentors write/email their students and visit (in pairs) monthly.
No academic tutoring! Mentors offer ongoing encouragement, support, and a connection to the outside world.
Bill Littlefield is an author (his latest book is “Mercy”) and current Emerson College volunteer Teaching Assistant at MCI-Norfolk. He will be joined by Melanie MacFarlane, of Partakers, and David Delvalle and Kentel Weaver, who began their Tufts degrees while incarcerated, have been released, and are currently on-campus students!
Working in teams of two to four people per student, mentors write and visit students in pairs once a month in a secure, open visiting room. Mentors also check in via email, letters, or video calls to provide encouragement, support, and occasional research. No academic tutoring required! Questions? Contact Tzedek.
